St.
Mary's Church Petworth
Giving
during the Corona Virus Crisis
Public
church services were suspended on 18th March 2020 but restarted
from 5th July 2020. However services will continue to be live
streamed and recorded for
those choosing not to attend.
THE
CHURCH IS ALSO OPEN FOR PRIVATE PRAYER.
For
how this affects services see the
Message from Father Mark.
One
of the direct consequences of closing the church to regular
services is that we have lost the regular cash donations but also
the gift aided donations and, even more significantly, the weekly
yellow envelope donations. Donations at church services will be
placed in the collecting box by donors rather than by passing
collecting bags around.
Covid-19
has had a devastating effect on Saint Mary’s finances, our
average monthly income is around half of the normal, and without
any compensating cost savings. From October 2020 Saint Mary's
preferred way to give regularly is the Parish Giving Scheme. Here
are the links to a detailed explanation of how it works and the
application form:-

You
can donate on-line using this link to our Charities Aid Foundation
page:-
Donate
on-line via CAF
Or
you can make one-off donations by bank transfer to the following
account:-
Bank:
Santander Sort Code: 09-01-55 Account number:
43235807 Account Name: St Mary the Virgin Church
Or
you can complete and return the standing
order form to The Treasurer. The standing order needs to be signed in order that
it can be sent on to your bank.
Cheques
are not really the answer on this occasion, as we will have
difficulty paying them in under present “isolation”
circumstances. Nor is cash, for the
same reason. Failing all else, please put your regular donations
to one side and then let Andrew have them when this is all
over.
Please give this matter your
urgent attention. As we said at the beginning of this
letter, church bills are not going to go away.
Thank
you, Yours truly,
Eileen
